This is a hilly and scenic 375 mile 2 day ride out of Oregon, Illinois.  Starting from the Paddlewheel Inn on the Rock River, we take a few short miles upstream before climbing out of the Rock River Valley.  Once at the top, it's non-stop rollers through Freeport, home of the Pretzels and a turnaround in Monroe, Wisconsin.  Hopefully, the wind is from the north as you retrace your steps back to Oregon for a refueling stop - Subway and Casey's are on the way.

The second 3rd of the ride keeps going south through Dixon where we cross the river and head northwest to Milridgeville and loop up to Lanark. Stop in historic Mt Carroll and the world's best outdoor Dairy Queen (closes a little early though).  We then loop back though Dixon to Oregon to spend the night at the Paddlewheel.

The final 3rd of the ride takes the improved cycling shoulder along the Rock River to Byron and heads north to Winnebago before angling east to Rockton, again crossing the Rock River.  A short stint on the easily ridable Long Prairie Trail to Poplar Grove then ends and we take roads south through farmlands through Kirkland to Oregon passing the Blackhawk Statue for our finish.

This ride is planned for 2 days.  We highly recommend you stay at the Paddlewheel.  Oregon has few to no 24 hour services so be sure to have dinner and breakfast planned in your room.  Byron is only a short easy distance on Day 2 so a more substantial stop there for fueling is recommended.  This ride has mandatory requirements for reflective gear and lights and is an advanced challenge.  Be prepared for lots of climbing but be rewarded by some fabulous scenery and views of the Rock River.

A brevet option is available to GLUC members active on or before March 15, 2021.  Be advised you will be no be on this route, but instead the certified 600k route, My Ears are Bleeding which is the most difficult ride in the Upper Midwest at nearly 30,000 ft of climbing.  You must contact us at info@greatlakesultracycling.org 1 week prior to the ride.

The third in our Midwest III Crown Double Century series. This is another great ride out of Oregon, Illinois.  It consists of a loop followed by 2 smaller loops giving you time (and temptation) to call it quits a bit early.  The initial loop heads north to Winnebago before crossing the Rock River.  We then spend a few miles on the Long Prairie Trail and head back to Oregon.  Next we. head into the hills for a quick 20 mile loop up to Leaf River before heading south to Dixon and returning for the finish.

This is a great ride. - about 7,000 ft of climbing so its no slouch, but not quite as beefy as the Blackhawk!

New 125 Mile Ride to  Mt Carroll via Dixon.  We take the same route as the Dancing Jellyfish Double Century first loop heading north to Winnebago, crossing the Rock and returning to Oregon on quiet farm roads.  About 3,300 ft of climbing so it's pretty mellow.  Great views of the Byron Nuclear Power Plant on the return.

    Social Gathering Before/After

Come join us for a new route out of the southwest 'burbs! This mixed terrain route starts out of Willow Springs heading south across the Valparaiso Moraine. Eventually you'll head west across the Kanakee River to Seneca. In Seneca you'll cross the Illinois River and turn east to follow the route of the old I&M Canal back to Willow Springs. At the finish you'll be rewarded with a socially-distanced gathering at Imperial Oak Brewing, convenientely located right across the street from the train station.

For this route I tried to stick to roads as much as possible, but at certain points I couldn't avoid a short stretch on crushed limestone trail. These points are noted on the route. That said, if trails are your thing, I created an alternate route that takes full advantage of the trails. You can find that route in the GLUC route library if you're interested.

The much beloved 622 mile adventure in Green Bay, WI returns!  This is a great hub and spoke route out of downtown Green Bay right on the Rock River.  Day 1 is an epic 270 mile loop to Wausau and Steven's Point through forests and farmlands.  Day 2 travels to the much-loved Door County and Death's Door, Day three loops down to High Cliff State park overlooking Lake Winnebago before crossing to Lake Michigan for a trip up the coast.

Frequently, the 1000k is an ignored step child. Not so at GLUC.  You will get all the attention and service that you would from a 1200k at our club.  Our philosophy is that the riding should be the difficult part.  We will streamline the process as much as we can to make sure your time with us is enjoyable.  You are our guests!

We are choosing to be optimistic that the pandemic will abate and are pricing this ride at double occupancy.  In this venue, we have the ability to segregate our group from the rest of the hotel.  We do ask that if you are traveling from outside the region that you room with someone coming with you (hopefully in a pod) for  and/or be fully vaccinated per CDC guidelines.  If not we ask that you opt for a single room out of caution.  Let's not spike the ball on the 5 yard line!  Single rooms are available and not a huge investment.

This will be offered as an ACP 1000k open to ALL riders - if RUSA shuts down, the ride will go on as a non-RUSA event only and you will be moved to that option.  A second version will also be offered that is non-RUSA and follows slightly different roads for those that are not interested in national standing.

Please note that this price does NOT include the night after the ride (Monday night).  If you need a room on Monday night, check the option and we will make arrangements.

Breakfast and dinner will be provided.  Breakfast will be pre-staged in rooms for the ride.  All rooms have microwaves and refrigerators.

Beautiful route that mirrors the longer Dark Chocolate Cow with the same first day.  Travel north with the sun over Green Bay before turning west through the beautiful forests of the Menomonie Reservation.  Enjoy a staffed lunch at the Dells of Eau Claire Park before winding down to Steven's Point along the Wisconsin River.  From there, it's quiet roads on rollers through the forest through Iola and enjoy the ride back into Green Bay.

On Day 2, rise to a short day with the first and last 15 miles on the Fox River Trail.  You will see the statue of Redbird, famous leader of the Ho-Chunk, as he gazes over Lake Winnebago over the Niagra Escarpment.  From there, you continue south, beginning to skirt the Kettle Morraine and the turn around at Chilton.  The final few miles are along the plateau before a descent back down to the lake and Green Bay.

We provide breakfast and lunch on Day 1 and dinner at the overnight as well as Friday and Saturday night in the Quality Inn Downtown Green Bay included in the ride price.  Let us know in ride options if. you want a room for Sunday night (highly recomended).  It's a long ride and temps may be hot.  A good night's sleep is worth it.  Fireworks in Green Bay too!

This is a superb 200 mile route from Green Bay to Death's Door at the very tip of Door County.  This ride has all the fun you would expect from a ride in Door County.  Don't plan on seeing McDonald's because it won't be there!  Once you cross the bridge at Sturgeon Bay, you are in some of the nicest cycling territory there is.     Many wonder why it's called "Door" County.  The area at the tip of the peninsula was a notorious ship wreck area in the 19th century with rocks and shallows as boats rounded it to get into Green Bay.  So many went down that it became known as "Death's Door" and the county was named after it.  You will pass views of several shipwreck sites as you gaze on Death's Door at about mile 100 before returning.  Try to give yourself enough time to stop in places like Egg Harbor and Fish Creek for a sandwich - but be aware there is no fast food to be found!

This is the 4th ride opportunity in our Midest III Crown.  It's also one of the nicest rides on the calendar this year.

You can choose to use our cheaper hotel block in Green Bay if you like.  Breakfast on Saturday and Dinner on Saturday night for the finish are included.  The room choice is a single one, but you can always bring a friend and share if you are comfortable doing so.

Other ride options are available as well!

This is a loop route from Green Bay through the area covered by the Great Peshtigo Fire of 1871.  The fire started on the same day as the Great Chicago Fire and burned so hot that it melted glass.  Started during a hot dry summer in the age of the lumber barrons, the town was a huge sawdust pile that went up in flames.  For years the fire was thought to have been so huge that it jumped Green Bay (which also burned at the same time).  You will pass a memorial to the many people who died in the fire.  The total count was never accurately recorded because the fire vaporized entire familes.

No worries of the sort today.  This is a great loop through scenic woods and you will turn around at the Monument to Queen Marinette in Marinette and a very beautiful historic stretch on the Menomonie River.

If you need hotel accommodation and are doing the Death's Door Double the day before, reserve there.  Otherwise, contact us and we can make arrangements for other nights.

This ride is scheduled for July 3 but can be ridden any day from July 3 to July 5.  It can be paired up as you like with other rides.
