DUE TO THE SUDDEN OPENING OF WISCONSIN AND CONCERN OVER TRAFFIC THE ROUTE IS BEING CHANGED.

Safety is a huge concern.  Wisconsin has suddenly lifted all restrictions.  The primary concern for this is not the pandemic, but the fact that a large number of people may very well flood the roads.  With bars open and very crowded there are addditional concerns over drunk driving.  We are moving to a new 300k along the Fox and Rock Rivers.

Due to restrictions for the COVID-19 panemic, this is a socially distanced ride.  RUSA is not holding brevets during this period so this is a GLR Event only.  All members will receive a GLR ride medal (provided they want one) for this ride - this is a free perk for being a member of our club.

Socially distanced rides have 2 major distinctions to promote the safety of our riders.

  • BYOS - Bring your own Start.  You may start anywhere along the route you like during a time window from 5:30 am (dawn) to 9:30 am.  This is to spread people out on the course.  Riding in groups of more than 2-3 is discouraged.
  • Electronic Proof of Passage.  There will not be brevet cards or receipts or paperwork - everything is electronic including ride reporting.  At the finish of the ride, riders will submit a URL to a Strava or RideWithGPS track along with their start and finish times and distance.  You may report a lower distance if you are not comfortable riding the entire distance.  It's more important this year to keep active and ride than finish.  There will not be set controls and you are encouraged to stop as frequently as is comfortable for you.  Do not forget to stop or carry enough nutrition!

There is a MANDATORY zoom meeting the night before the ride.  Role will be taken, if you do not attend or make arrangements ahead of time, your registration will be cancelled.

Michele Brougher is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Great route! Most rides that are memorable have unexpected challenges-and this had it all. Flooded routes, navigational challenges, an awesome tailwind for miles on end followed by hellacious headwinds that seemingly persisted forever as well as a crash and splash. Awesome!! This will be a brevet that will be talked about in the future.

Not a big fan of urban bike paths. Wishing I would have started in Woodstock to avoid the crowds. Overall I like the course. Pretty much in my back yard.

Although the wind for the last 65 miles was not fun, the route its self was great. Great riding partners. Some long distances without places to stop but those tended to be flat and manageable.

I never wrote this route as an early spring ride, but it worked and everyone had fun - including me! First 200k+ ride on a single bike since breaking my leg last year. The 20-30 mph headwind for the last 66 miles was impressive! I'm really looking forward to doing this route again when there is less flooding and I can enjoy the Fox River trail south of Elgin.
